GSMC News – GOOD SHEPHERD HEALTH SYSTEM APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT & CEO
| The Good Shepherd Health System Board of Directors have announced the appointment of a new president and chief executive officer. Mr. Edward D. Banos has verbally accepted the position and will begin filling this role effective July 1, 2008. “We are looking forward to the leadership that Mr. Banos will bring to Good Shepherd,” said Richard A. Dial, chairman of the board. “He is a good fit for the organization and brings years of varied health care experience to this position. He has big shoes to fill but we are confident he will lead positive change for the organization.” |
Ed Banos has most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer of Allegheny General Hospital located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Over his 21 year career, Mr. Banos has served in various capacities at hospitals and outpatient facilities varying in size from 40 to 754 beds. Accomplishments that he has led during his career include:
- Implemented Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE)
- Installed Lynx coding system for emergency room improving reimbursement and clinical documentation
- Developed regional alliances with community hospital for neurosurgical and cardiac services
- Worked with employed medical staff of over 400 physicians for development of clinic model
- Applied and received compliance with Leap Frog and Get with the Guidelines quality initiatives
- Implemented aggressive recruitment strategy to hire 60 nurses and other professionals in 6 months
- Directed renovation of nursing units, medical and surgical intensive care unit and physician office space in professional office building
- Increased physician and employee satisfaction over five percent
- Developed managed care product/Urgent Care Center for worker’s compensation
- Built freestanding surgery center with two operating rooms and independent orthopedic and eye surgeons which increased surgery volume by 50%
He received his bachelor of science degree in health records administration from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a masters degree in Health Service Administration from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. Mr. Banos is married to Brenda Lanzel and will be relocating to Longview.
