Longview is conveniently located just North of Interstate 20, approximately 118 miles from Dallas and 60 miles from Shreveport. East Texas is known for its scenic lakes, lush piney woods, sports tourism, renowned golf courses and award winning schools. Longview has many cultural activities to offer as well. Every summer starts off with the street festival AlleyFest, followed by the Great Texas Balloon Race. Throughout the year residents and visitors alike can enjoy the symphony orchestra, community theater, ballet and regional opera.
Two significant designations were awarded to Longview in 2008; America’s Promise Alliance’s “100 Best Communities for Young People” and the State’s bestowment of “Certified Retirement Community.” Longview is ranked by Inc.com, the online version of Inc. Magazine, as 13th out of 335 metropolitan areas across the nation as a best place to do business. Longview is ranked second in Texas for job growth, and the overall costs of doing business in Longview are 10% lower than the national average. In addition, Longview was just named the “Fittest City in Texas” by Texas State Governor Rick Perry.
