Tuition Reimbursement Programs
Good Shepherd Medical Center is proud to support employees who choose to continue their education. For those who plan to pursue their education in a healthcare-related field, financial assistance is available through Good Shepherd’s Tuition Reimbursement Program.
Who is eligible?
Active employees who are Full Time or Regular Part Time and in good standing from beginning to end of the course and term (with prior approval)
What costs are covered?
In order to be reimbursed, courses must be related to the employee’s current job, a healthcare career the employee is pursuing, or be part of the employee’s degree program which is related to a healthcare career. Courses taken at any accredited school, college or university are generally acceptable.
Reimbursement for post-graduate courses or programs require written approval from the President or appropriate Vice President in order to be reimbursed.
When will I be reimbursed?
Reimbursement checks are available in the Human Resources office two weeks after all necessary documentation has been submitted.
Two Great options:
- Primary Benefit
Full-time employees are reimbursed 100 percent of the reasonable cost of tuition and laboratory fees. Regular part-time employees are reimbursed 75%. 50% of the cost of required textbooks is reimbursed.
The maximum reimbursement for an employee is $2500.
- Great Careers
Selected Full-time and Regular part-time employees enrolled or intending to enroll in an approved Degree program in Nursing, Respiratory, Laboratory MT, Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy Program.
100 % of tuition costs up to the IRS annual limit of $5250 in 2008.
Employees who receive assistance under the “Great Careers” program are not eligible for those sign-on incentives that might be available to other employees.
- Employees are required to fulfill a 3 year full-time work commitment after completion of a degree or funds received must be reimbursed to Good Shepherd.
- A payroll deduction agreement must be signed & submitted with the initial application authorizing any amounts owed to be deducted from the employee’s final check(s) should the employee leave employment or change employment status (i.e.; full-time to part-time) prior to completing the 3 year commitment.
- If any repayment is due Good Shepherd, but not reimburse within six months, monies owed Good Shepherd will be submitted to a collection agency.
- Good Shepherd intends to continue the “Great Careers” Benefit, however all or any part of this policy may be subject to amendment or termination at any time by the President & CEO of Good Shepherd.
Employees who wish to participate in the Tuition Reimbursement Program are asked to complete an application form (with estimated expenses) and submit it to his or her supervisor at least one week prior to the beginning of the course. Once the application is approved, it will be returned to the employee.
When the course concludes, participating employees must attach itemized receipts and copies of grade reports to the approved application form. The form must be completed, signed and submitted to the Human Resources Department within 6 weeks of course completion in order to receive the reimbursement.
Supervisors and Department Directors are responsible for reviewing employee applications for completeness and timeliness.
If the application is complete and timely, and the coursework appears to meet the criteria stated in these guidelines, mark the application “recommended:, sign, date and forward the application to the Human Resources Department.
Approved applications should be returned to the employee once they are returned from Human Resources Department.
