Surgical and Non-Surgical Weight Loss
Expertise and options from trained specialists

Obesity is considered by many experts to be our number one health problem in America. Obesity and its associated co-morbidities, especially cardiac disease, hypertension, diabetes and cancer, take an enormous toll on thousands of people every day. For those patients struggling with obesity, the Center for Bariatric Surgery and Good Shepherd Metabolic Medicine offer help. Good Shepherd’s highly trained staff of physicians, surgeons, nurses, nutrition and behavior counselors, dieticians and exercise specialists, are committed to helping you understand the different surgical and medical options and adopt the all-important nutrition and behavior changes that lead to long term success.

Bariatric Surgery

Persons with a body mass index (BMI) over 40 or over 35 with at least one major health problem (i.e., diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, or osteoarthritis) may be a candidate for bariatric surgery. As part of our team approach for long-term success, patients receive frequent follow up guidance from our surgical clinic and metabolic specialty service.
