On May 29, 2015, Good Shepherd Medical Center
honored its first graduating class of resident physicians
in a special commencement ceremony held at the
Summit Club in Longview. Good Shepherd’s new
three-year internal medicine residency program led by
Director Emmanuel Elueze, MD, prepares students from
medical schools across the U.S. to take their place as
fully-fledged doctors.
Over the course of the program, resident physicians
receive training under the guidance of Good Shepherd’s
experienced clinicians and supportive administrative
staff. “This inaugural group of residents has been
instrumental in developing an effective and cohesive
program for all future classes,” said Dr. Elueze. “We are
extremely proud of our graduates and know they will
continue to be outstanding, compassionate physicians.”
Five of the 17 graduates will remain with GSMC, while
the other residents will move on to continue their
careers and education. The Good Shepherd residency
program has grown to 53 residents since its inception
in 2010 and was developed in partnership with the
University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler.
