Code of Clinical Values

Good Shepherd Medical Center is committed to creating a healthier future for the residents of Longview and the East Texas area. Good Shepherd strives to provide quality, compassionate and comprehensive health related services to the whole person: body, mind and spirit.

In order to supplement the mission, vision and values of Good Shepherd, the Coordinating Council has not only adopted the American Nurses’ Association’s Code of Ethics for Nurses, they have developed the following Code of Clinical Values:

COMPASSION
• Listens empathetically to others
• Recognizes and alleviates the stress or suffering of others
• Demonstrates sympathy for the suffering of others and their needs
• Demonstrates kindness to those we care for and those we work with


RESPECT
• Demonstrates caring and non-judgmental behaviors through tone and body language
• Restrains from inappropriate conversations such as talking over patients and talking about others
• Demonstrates professional courtesy for coworkers of all levels of education and experience
• Protects the confidentiality and privacy of our patients and their families
• Listens attentively to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers


COMPETENCE
• Takes ownership of professional development, training and advancement
• Possesses the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve positive outcomes for our patients
• Pursues continuing education opportunities to stay abreast of new evidence based practices
