Education and Professional Development Council
- This council serves to facilitate communication, define, and evaluate clinical education needs in order to advance the knowledge and skills of clinical staff.
- This council works closely with the Clinical Education departments to identify and establish programs or educational conferences necessary to promote ongoing professional development including but not limited to Nursing Grand Rounds, Journal Club, and mentoring programs.
- This council serves as the committee for the TNA providership which includes:
- Guiding, the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating of educational activities at GSMC.
- Guiding the policies and procedures for the CE process.
- Reviews CE activity evaluations, summaries, evaluates attendance numbers, shares ANCC/TNA updates or changes, identifies any needed changes in CNE delivery and/or new topics for activities.
- Fulfills roles of “reviewers” for the TNA-CNE Assessment/Evaluation process for a new activity
- Evaluates summaries of CNE activities during the past year
- Assists and reviews educational needs assessments
- Reviews training or transitional programs (preceptorship, orientation, charge nurse, clinical residencies, etc) to ensure evidence-based practice and standards of practice are incorporated by providing ongoing feedback and recommending changes.
- Promotes career progression by developing a plan and defining the process for the achievement of national certifications, Clinical Ladder, and college based degree programs among direct care clinicians. Promotion of national certifications by sponsoring certification study groups and the National Certification Day for Nurses.
- Develops support resources which promote publication activities (e.g. journals and National Conferences) for clinicians.
- Promotes and manages recognition programs (with the exception of the Daisy Award.)
- Liaisons with the Practice Council regarding research studies/initiative for purposes of publications.
