Room Assignments
Patient room assignments at Good Shepherd Medical Center are based upon admitting diagnosis and bed availability on the day of admission. Private and deluxe rooms are available on select floors depending on medical condition. Any concerns or questions about your room can be discussed with your nurse, the Guest Relations Specialist or the Customer Service Representative.

Patient Room Options
As part of our dedication to your convenience and comfort, Good Shepherd offers choices in patient room accommodations. While most insurance policies cover the cost of the standard patient room, we also provide two additional patient room options.

For an additional per day cost, you can choose either the Shepherd Suite ($175 per day) or a Deluxe Room ($75 per day). If you are interested in upgrading your patient room, please notify your nurse.

Shepherd Suites and Deluxe Rooms are available based on your healthcare needs, the approval of your physician and availability of the rooms. The additional per day cost must be paid in advance with a major credit card or by check with a copy of a major credit card.

Your Hospital Bed
Hospital beds are electronically operated, and your nurse will show you how to operate your bed properly. Your hospital bed is probably higher and more narrow than your bed at home. Bedside rails are for your protection. They may be raised at night or during the day if you are resting, recovering from surgery or taking certain medications.

Room Temperature
All rooms in the hospital are centrally heated and air-conditioned. If your room temperature is not comfortable, please notify the nursing staff.

Calling Your Nurse
A button to call your nurse is located at your bedside. When you press the button, the nurse station is alerted that you need assistance. A staff member will respond to your signal as soon as possible. Strange surroundings and sleeping medications may create a hazard for you if you get up during the night. If you need assistance, please use your call button.

Good Shepherd also provides hospital issued wireless phones to the nursing staff. You may notice nurses using a wireless phone. Please understand use of this phone is directly related to patient care. It provides timely communication between the nurse, care team and physicians to expedite the care and treatment you are receiving. If assistance is needed, please use the call light and be assured your nurse will be contacted quickly through the wireless phone system.

Medications from Home
Unless requested by your physician, please leave all your prescription drugs at home. Your physician will prescribe any medications necessary during your hospitalization, and they will be administered by your nurse. Be sure to inform your physician and nurse of any drug allergies and of any prescribed medications you are currently taking.

Patients are not permitted to administer their own drugs or keep personal medications at their bedside. This is necessary since taking your own medication could possibly result in adverse drug interactions and/or interfere with the current medication ordered by your physician.

Use of Electronic Devices
Critical patient equipment within Good Shepherd Medical Center is adversely affected by the signals from all cell phones and hand-held radio transmitters. Therefore, please take extreme caution while using a cell phone in the vicinity of patient equipment. Guidelines for use of electronics are:
  • Use of cellular phones is prohibited within six feet of all patient care equipment.
  • Use of two-way radios is prohibited within 25 feet of all patient care equipment.
  • Photographic use of camera phones is prohibited in patient care areas.
It is critical these guidelines are followed.
