Orthopaedic Services
The orthopaedic staff cares for people from all walks of life – athletes, arthritis sufferers, children, diabetics, accident victims, injured workers and senior citizens. Good Shepherd treats injuries and diseases of the extremities, spine, muscles, bones, tendons, cartilage, ligaments and joints. More than that, though, the center’s staff treats the patient as a whole, taking into account related medical conditions, such as cancer or diabetes.
Good Shepherd Medical Center has a team of orthopaedic clinical specialists and physicians, including board-certified orthopaedic surgeons, who work together to provide the highest quality of care to the patient.
Good Shepherd utilizes a highly skilled staff to implement a range of innovative programs including MAKOplasty Partial Knee Replacement, Joint Works, Orthodirect and our Sports Medicine division which co-sponsors our ImPACT Concussion Management program.
MAKOplasty is a new, minimally invasive partial knee resurfacing procedure used to treat early to mid-stage osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee that is currently only available at Good Shepherd Medical Center. MAKOplasty, powered by the state-of-the-art RIO Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic system, offers a more precise and consistent result in a minimally invasive procedure. MAKOplasty patients may experience shorter hospitals stays, quicker recovery times and a smaller incision as compared to total knee replacement.
Joint Works offers a unique recovery program for patients having knee or hip replacement surgery. The Joint Works program allows patients to encourage each other and share the joint replacement experience in a group setting, from preoperative education to postoperative rehabilitation.
Orthodirect allows patients direct access to orthopedic surgeons. Those experiencing pain or who have an injury can walk in without an appointment to Taylor Medical Center or Good Shepherd Family Health Centers in Gladewater, Henderson or Kilgore to be screened by a physician’s assistant. If needed, the patient will be immediately referred to be seen the same day or next day by an orthopedic surgeon.
Our sports medicine program provides on-site medical care for both local schools and community events. Our Sports Medicine team works closely with the physicians of the Neurological Institute of Good Shepherd to offer the area’s only ImPACT concussion testing program that is able to effectively evaluate and treat concussions in young athletes.
Good Shepherd has been honored to receive recognition from independent ratings companies like HealthGrades, CareChex and more for many years for providing high quality care in orthopedics. Most recently, Good Shepherd was recognized as one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the Nation for Major Orthopedic Surgery and ranked 7th in the State of Texas. Good Shepherd is also ranked in the Top 100 nationally and 5th in the State of Texas for Joint Replacement and Orthopedic Care.
