Infusion
Good Shepherd Medical Center’s Outpatient Infusion Center was designed with the patients’ needs in mind. It offers a convenient outpatient setting for patients who require frequent infusions of medications, including chemotherapy. The Infusion Clinic provides the best quality of care for patients 18 years of age and older requiring intravenous therapy.
The Infusion Center offers a comfortable and convenient alternative to receiving infusion services as an inpatient or in the emergency room. Patients receive their infusion in a comfortable recliner and may watch TV or bring DVDs with handheld DVD players, listen to music, read or relax.
Your time is valuable, so please plan to arrive on time for your treatments. We will want you to relax and visit with your nurse to let them know how you are doing prior to your next treatment. Rest assured, we are using this time to check and double check to make sure you are receiving the best care possible. Due to the high cost of medications and serious nature of this type of care, we will not prepare your treatment until you have arrived at the center and have reviewed information with your nurse.
Infusion services offered include:
- Chemotherapy
- Blood product transfusions
- Intravenous antibiotics
- Central line catheter care
- Hydration therapy
- Injection services
- Remicade therapy
- Iron infusions
Infusion services are provided by a staff of experienced registered nurses who specialize in intravenous therapy. We also offer assessment and evaluation, educational materials, and we work with your primary physician to coordinate your care.
We are pleased you have selected Good Shepherd Medical Center for your treatment needs. Our professional staff is dedicated to serving you with all of our available resources.
We recommend the following:
Transportation
If you are taking mind altering medications, please have someone drive you. If you have difficulty with transportation, please call the American Cancer Society at (877) 227-1618. A Patient Care Service coordinator may be able to locate a volunteer in the area who could help with transportation.
Food
Popsicles, fruit juice and crackers are offered for all patients. If you would like to bring food from outside, please be courteous of others’ sensitivity to the aroma of the food.
Insurance pre-authorization guidelines have been established for Infusion Center patients.
To schedule an appointment, call (903) 315-2031. A physician order is required. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, your appointment may have to be rescheduled. We require 24 hours advance notice. We will do our best to coordinate your treatment in a way that provides the best quality care possible and meets your needs at the same time.
The Outpatient Infusion Center is located within the acute care hospital setting on the 4th floor of the main tower on Hematology-Oncology Unit.
