High Risk Maternity (Perinatology)
Good Shepherd established a perinatology program to provide individualized care to expectant mothers who may be considered at high risk for adverse maternal, fetal or neonatal outcomes. The perinatologist works with the obstetrician by providing consultations and co-management of the care for complicated, high risk patients. They are able to monitor the high risk mothers through enhanced ultrasound and other testing as well as care for those patients who experience preterm labor, preterm rupture of membranes or have had experience with past high risk or unsuccessful pregnancies.
Genetic counseling and testing services are also available.
Patients who needed this level of care in the past had to travel to Dallas or Shreveport to receive the Level II Ultrasound or the consultation of this physician specialty.
