Center for Bariatric Surgery & Metabolic Medicine
Surgical and medical therapies both require a multi-disciplined approach to help patients overcome the complex problems caused by weight gain and obesity. With this in mind, Good Shepherd has recruited a select group of physicians, surgeons, nurses, nutrition and behavior counselors, dieticians and exercise specialists to assist each patient in the process of choosing a treatment program most appropriate for their health concerns and conditions. Our program emphasizes not only state-of-the-art bariatric surgery and life-long aftercare, but also medical weight loss and long-term maintenance for those patients interested in non-surgical options.
Programs at the Center for Bariatric Surgery & Metabolic Medicine
Metabolic Medicine: Living Complete
Metabolic medicine examines whole-person wellness and explores all aspects of your medical care and management. A physician directed protein-based program, Living Complete, helps patients learn a new approach to healthy eating through a combination of closely monitored medical supervision, behavior modification, nutrition counseling and meal replacement. Patients undergoing weight loss surgery will also participate in the Living Complete program before and after surgery. Click here for more about Metabolic Medicine.
Weight Loss Surgery: Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass & Adjustable Gastric Banding
Persons with a body mass index (BMI) over 40 or over 35 with at least one major health problem (i.e., diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, or osteoarthritis) may be a candidate for bariatric surgery. As part of our team-approach for long-term success, patients receive frequent follow-up and guidance from not only our surgical clinic but also from our metabolic specialty service. Aftercare & Support
The Center offers a comprehensive approach to the multitude of issues and hurdles you may confront in the immediate and extended timeframe after surgery. Through our on-going support groups we offer you a chance to share your experiences and successes with other individuals, as motivated as you are to improve their health by adopting a new and healthier lifestyle. We strive to provide the on-going education and support necessary for you to make sustained weight loss a reality.
The first step to bariatric surgery is participating in a free information seminar. The seminar is designed to introduce our surgical and medical team, review the most up-to-date surgical options and discuss the benefits of a medically-based weight management program.
