Sleep Disorder Services at Good Shepherd
Restful sleep is vital to long-term health
More than 70 million people in this country suffer from a sleep disorder. Lack of sleep affects not only your energy level but also your mental and social functioning. Sleep deprivation over prolonged periods causes psychological disturbances in normal persons. Sleep disorders are of various kinds and may be the result of physical conditions, stress, or other factors.
Our Centers for Sleep Disorders want to help you get a good night’s sleep. We can diagnose sleep disorders through polysomnography (PSG), a procedure that monitors and records blood oxygen levels, heart and respiration patterns, sleep stages and body movements. A polysomnogram is commonly used to diagnose a variety of conditions such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, periodic limb movement disorder, insomnias, nocturnal seizures and more. The centers evaluate the sleeping functions of the body to determine the causes preventing normal, restful sleep.
