A full service, acute care 425–bed regional referral center that operates specialty nursing units including cardiology, orthopaedics, general surgery, neurology/neurosurgery, oncology, critical care, obstetrics and pediatrics, where nurses are able to provide specialized care. As a Level II Trauma Center, Good Shepherd provides the highest level of trauma care for Gregg County and the surrounding area. The Emergency Department provided care to more than 88,000 patient visits last year and is supported by an in-house surgical team comprised of anesthesia, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, general surgery, and oral/maxillofacial surgery 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Medical Center is also home to the region’s first Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which is staffed by neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and neonatal nurses. This staff is supported by a team of specialized respiratory therapists, pharmacists and dietitians.
